Vacation property rental risks

The rental property horror stories are everywhere about all nigh parties and inappropriate (and kinda hilarious) use of mansions as one time use porn studios.

…dozens of people had been smoking. The flat was filthy. My towels had been used to wipe muddy floors and smelled of booze. Wineglasses were broken or missing, wine stained the floorboards, the vacuum cleaner was broken and stank of cannabis

Said one publicized complaint

While some of this is covered by various rental listing services by their insurance, it rarely covers all damage, and certainly does not cover down time to have cleaning and repairs completed while losing rental income or having to cancel the next bookings. These types of unexpected expenses are unfortunate, but manageable if you’re prepared for the inevitable bad guest.

If you’re really into seeing some horror stories, check out Airbnb Hell – dedicated to uncensored stories from hosts and guests. But keep in mind there’s a reason vacation rentals are still doing very well, there are many more wonderful stories for every bad one.

When you’re ready to dip your toes into the rental market, try out Stayy.app instead of jumping right into the deep end of unknown people. You can figure out all the logistics, potential problems, and what vacationers want locally. All while staying legal and using your friends and family as guinea pigs. And if things get broken or spilled, at least you’ll know which cousins kid to blame at the next family reunion. 🤣
